Tetsutaba

If you have been involved in the martial arts for very long then you have long since been convinced of one simple fact: you are not tough enough. It does not matter how tough you are, you may be very tough indeed, but you could and should be tougher. That is where the tetsutaba comes in. The tetsutaba, or iron bundle, is a conditioning device used in karate and kung fu for centuries to strengthen large surface areas like the arms, legs, ribs, shins, and anywhere else you don't hit enough through other training. Think of it like self-flagellation for sins you are about to commit instead of ones you already have. Each tetsutaba comes with 108 carbon steel wires, 108 is a highly symbolic number in many traditions, held in a 4in wooded handle. The total length is 21”. The rubber band can be slid up and down the bundle to adjust how much the bundle can spread apart on impact.

Please contact me if you have any questions. The tetsutaba is part of a whole line Hojo Undo equipment I make including a olympic and standard-weight sized chi ishi handle, concrete chi ishi, nigiri game (gripping jars), floor and wall mounted makiwara (striking posts), ishi sashi (stone hand weights), and kongokens (weighted oval and literally the greatest thing ever). There are virtually no suppliers of these items so I'm happy to do my part. Check out picture of our entire range on our Facebook page at facebook.com/modernhojoundo.
