Makiwara with Platform

The makiwara is a wooden striking-post used in Okinawan and Japanese martial arts to train striking techniques. The makiwara is not a wooden heavy bag. I cannot emphasize that enough. The makiwara is like a good honing stone. It requires time and repetition. And most importantly it requires skill in operating it. But if you take the time to develop that skill then the results you can achieve are nothing short of astounding.

The striking post is made of your choice of a 3.5" (9cm) douglas and tapers from 3” (7.6cm) at the base to 3/4” (19mm) at the top, or a 3.5" (9cm) red oak and tapers from 3” (7.6cm) at the base to 1/2” (13mm) at the top.

The leather pad is your choice of a 8” (20cm) or 12in (30cm) pad which laces up at the back, and includes a rubber insert that offers cushioning but will not break down over time. The base is made of pine.

This listing also includes either a 4ftx4ft or 1ftx4ft base to mount my floor mounted makiwara. Platform comes disassembled with all necessary hardware. It is completely freestanding. It does not need to be attached to the floor.

This is a complete makiwara. All parts and hardware are included.

In the box:  48” (1.2m) striking post, either Red Oak or Douglas Fir

leather pad (color may vary), either 8in or 12in

                   floor-base

platform with bolts, either 1ftx4ft or 4ftx4ft

One last DISCLAIMER:  Do not use a makiwara without the experience or supervision to keep you safe. If you do injure yourself stop using the makiwara until you are fully healed. If you are under 18 years old do not strike the makiwara with full power.
